MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Chevy trucks have built an incomparable legacy of dependability and toughness over the past 100 years. If you head down to Corsicana, Texas, you'll find a 1973 Chevrolet C10 454 that sets a new high watermark for vehicle longevity. Danny Hudson, the proud owner of this Chevy truck, has put over 1 million miles on its odometer. You read that right, 1 million miles.
This incredible feat was not without plenty of hurdles along the way though. Hudson has had to repair some things over the years, and even put in a few new engines, including at one point, a Corvette 427 with three double-barrel carbs. Thankfully Hudson is no stranger to a working under the hood and does all the work on the truck himself. He is ASE certified and a GM Master Tech.
“Things are gonna break,” says Hudson. “I just fix it as it needs it.”
What makes this truck's legendary odometer even more amazing is that Hudson hasn't regularly driven the C10 since 1999. His day-to-day ride ever since is a 2000 Chevy Silverado, with, unsurprisingly, a half-million miles on it.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Chevrolet truck ever produced, Chevy created their Truck Legends program, a fun club of sorts that recognizes and rewards Chevy truck owners with more than 100,000 miles on the odometer or customers who have purchased or leased one or more new Chevy trucks in their lifetime. Danny Hudson and his C10 certainly qualify as Truck Legends along with 5,400 other program members from around the country. The Chevy Trucks Centennial Celebration, the culmination of this anniversary campaign, will be held at Texas Motor Speedway on December 16th.
