Monitor Driving Habits With Your myBuick App

PLEASANT, Mich -- As the popularity of self-monitoring and health monitoring mobile apps continues to grow, Buick owners can now also monitor their driving habits using their myBuick app. With the integration of Buick Smart Driver services into the app, owners who opt in can self-monitor important driving behaviors, including mpg, and become better drivers. 

Steve Samolinski discussed the launch of this new Buick service saying:

When you enroll in Buick Smart Driver, you can monitor the following habits and have them reported by the day, week, or month via the mobile app: 

• Total number of hard breaking events
• Total number of hard acceleration events
• High-speed driving percentage
• Late-night driving percentage
• Total miles driven
• Average mpg and mph
• Tips on how to become a smarter driver
• Overall Smart Driver score

Originally launched as a web-based service in May 2016, the platform quickly gained popularity with more than 211,000 enrolled Buick drivers that average 700,000 trips daily. Customers also can enroll in the Insurance Discounts Eligibility portion of the Buick Smart Driver service, which is a risk-free way to see if positive driving behavior qualifies them for discounts without revealing any personal details to insurance companies. 

Buick was recently ranked highest among mass market brands for Total Ownership Experience by J.D. Power and Associates. With a growing set of available connected services such as Buick Smart Driver, the brand is enabling an ownership experience that expands and evolves over time for its customers.

Groupe PSA and GMC Teaming up to Launch Car-Sharing Service in the US

MT. PLEASANT, Mich-- Free2Move, a car and bike sharing app owned by Groupe PSA is set to launch in Washington DC this month. The app, which has already launched in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon allows users to compare car sharing services and choose which works best for them in that moment. It's a multi-provider registration process, so personal info only needs to be uploaded to Free2Move, and then you can order from any other transportation app without having to go through a second vetting process. You can hail public transit, a car, bike or scooter share, and much more! 

The Free2Move platform is in use across Europe, but PSA is targeting the US to boost the app's success. There are also whispers of a larger agenda behind the launch. While PSA is the second largest automaker in Europe, their vehicles have not been sold in the US for at least 20 years and various industry leaders suspect this is an attempt to wiggle back into the American market.   

In preparation for their Washington DC launch, PSA teamed up with GMC to acquire a fleet of 600 leased Chevrolet Equinox crossovers and Chevrolet Cruze models. Though this is not the first transaction between PSA and GM this year, in early August, the two corporations closed on a deal that relinquished the former GM company Opel/Vauxhall into PSA's hands. GM stated that the sale was a step in a major overhaul for their brand, in addition to a money saving effort, as GMC sales in Europe have been on a steady decline. This partnership has come as surprise to many, including Opel's leadership, but so far the results have seemed to benefit both parties.

Chevy Creates Apple Watch-Friendly MyChevrolet App

MT. PLEASANT, Mich., – MyChevrolet, a mobile app that was released on the App Store and Google Play Store last year, gives users additional ways to interact with their vehicle. MyChevrolet offers a suite of features to users, from locking and unlocking doors at long distances to viewing detailed reports of their vehicle's history. Recently, Chevy created an Apple Watch-friendly MyChevrolet App, allowing users to access the unique features of the MyChevrolet app on their Apple Watches.

Apple Watch owners now have improved access to their vehicle, allowing drivers that download MyChevrolet to lock and unlock their vehicle, start it up and shut it off, locate it in parking lots, and engage and disengage the lights. They'll also be able to receive a detailed report of the vehicle's history and service reports, and check its systems to see if it needs maintenance. MyChevrolet users can also schedule a service appointment wirelessly to get their vehicle looked at as quickly as possible. MyChevrolet sends reminders and notifications for oil changes, tire rotations, and other routine maintenance to keep drivers proactive in caring for their vehicle.

“The use of the myChevrolet app by our owners continues to grow across the entire vehicle lineup, so expanding its availability to Apple Watch was a natural next step and allows us to offer another easy way to manage key vehicle functions remotely,” said Paul Edwards, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of Marketing. “Whether you want to cool down your Malibu on a hot summer day or locate it after attending a crowded baseball game, Chevrolet owners can now make that choice from their iPhone or Apple Watch.”

Currently, MyChevrolet has over 1.4 million users. Chevrolet Silverado, Malibu, and Equinox drivers are the most frequent users of the MyChevrolet app, and Malibu users alone used the app over 8.5 million times in the first 6 months of 2017. The MyChevrolet app is regularly updated, giving Chevy owners increased access to the inner workings of their vehicle and additional features to benefit from. MyChevrolet users can also access a variety of additional benefits, such as roadside assistance, Wi-Fi hotspot management, parking reminders, and a digital copy of their vehicle owner's manual.

The MyChevrolet app is available to all Chevrolet customers on the App Store and Google Play Store for mobile devices as well as the Apple Watch.
