GM Officially Announces Plans for Electric Pickup

MT. PLEASANT, Mich -- It's official: GM is planning on building an electric pickup. This new has been highly speculated for several months but was recently confirmed by GM CEO, Mary Barra, on a call with investors, following her report of the corporation's 2019 first-quarter earnings. 

Recently, GM and Plymouth-based electric vehicle start-up Rivian had been in talks with the intention of collaborating on an electric project together, but that appeared to fall apart rather quickly as rival Ford Motor Co. announced it would invest $500 million in the small company to develop all-new, battery-electric vehicles for the Ford portfolio. 

GM has made it clear through numerous talks and press releases that it is in the early stages of a plan to release 20 new electric vehicles by 2023, and since pickups are a key profit-driver for GM as well as their Detroit competitors, it only makes sense that an electric truck would be in the works. To further add to the seriousness of this announcement, GM has been slowly working behind the scenes to restructure its leadership to prepare for this electrification pivot - promoting former electric-vehicle development chief Pamela Fletcher to the senior leadership team in September, in addition to former global product chief Mark Reuss to president of GM earlier this year. 

Mary Barra led into the announcement stating that: 

"GM has an industry-leading truck franchise and industry-leading electrification capabilities. I assure you we will not cede our leadership on either front...we intend to create an all-electric future that will include a complete range of EVs - including full-size pickups." 


She then went on to say that she would share more details when it became "competitively appropriate". All other GM spokespeople have declined to comment.

MT. PLEASANT, Mich -- It's a boy...it's a girl...it's a 2020 Silverado HD! Join us in welcoming the newest addition to the Chevy truck family. This soon-to-be truck legend is the strongest, most capable Silverado ever made - offering 52% more towing capabilities, class-leading technologies, and an expanded range of customer choices. 

The vehicle's chief engineer, Jaclyn McQuaid spoke out on the truck's release saying: 

"We set out to make the best HD trucks on the market, bar none...we increased towing capabilities across the line, added class-leading towing technologies, and a host of changes to make tasks easier" 

Built at the Flint assembly plant in Michigan this truck is longer, wider, and taller than any of its predecessors, with a wheelbase that's been stretched 5.2 inches on Crew Cab models and is scaled for HD customers. It will also be available with 5 distinct trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country - so that you can choose the truck that fits your life. 

Customers can also choose between two new powertrains. The standard engine is a new 6.6L V-8 gas with direct injection making 401 HP and 464 lb-ft of torque. Then there's the legendary Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V-8 engine making 445 HP and 910 lb-ft of torque, coupled with the all-new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Silverado to Make Daytona 500 History

MT. PLEASANT, Mich -- The 2019 Silverado is set to make Daytona 500 history this year, by becoming the first truck to pace the Great American Race. The pacer truck will be driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr., a driver who is familiar with leading the pack, having won the Dayona 500 twice, among numerous other racing accomplishments. 

Chevrolet has paced the Daytona 500 12 times, 7 with the Camaro and 5 with the Corvette, but, in the words of Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, the company is beyond thrilled to "have Dale lead the field to green in the strongest, most advanced Silverado ever.". He went on to say "Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the perfect choice to pace the race because of his enthusiasm for the sport, his long history with Chevrolet and his love of trucks.". 

Chevrolet isn't the only one looking forward to this history-making venture, Dale said "I've had a lot of fun and success at Daytona over the years, and now I can't wait to get out that track in a Silverado...away from the track I've driven Chevy trucks all my life, and I'm excited to have this unique experience of pacing the Daytona 500 with the Silverado.". 

The Silverado pace truck is powered by a production 6.2L V-8 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, delivering 420 HP and a 460 Lb-Ft of torque.

Chevrolet Reveals the 2020 Silverado HD High Country

MT. PLEASANT, Mich -- Chevrolet is getting up in your grille! Every Silverado HD in the 2020 series will feature distinct exterior details including grilles featuring either the Chevrolet stamped bar or the iconic Chevrolet bowtie. This week, the corporation gave us a sneak peek into their 2020 truck franchise, and they're beastlier than ever! 

Truck customers are very clear: They want the perfect truck for them and not a 'one size fits most' truck compromised for the masses" said Mike Simcoe, the vice president of global design for General Motors. Chevrolet is listening to this sentiment, hence an expanded range of customer choices for trim levels on the all-new Silverado HD: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and the range-topping High Country. These distinct exteriors provide a greater differentiation between the 1500 and HD models, and give customers the ability to personalize their truck. 

The photograph above displays the new High Country exterior which boasts two-tone metallic trim, a redesigned grille, the Chevrolet bowtie, in addition to all-new features and technology. This model and the others in the new Silverado franchise take into account "every detail of what customers expect, and how they will use their truck" Simcoe said. "The results are unique versions of the Silverado HD equally at home, working on a construction site, or pulling a camping trailer.".

Chevy Celebrates the Colorado's 4th Birthday

MT. PLEASANT, Mich -- November 2019 marks the 4th birthday of the Chevrolet Colorado. A segment redefining truck that took the US market by storm. To celebrate, Chevy is expanding the Colorado family with two 2019 special editions, the off-road Z71 Trail Runner and the street-focused RST. 

The Colorado has pushed GM up through the ranks as the most successful truck company for the past four years, selling 634, 505 more pickups than the closest manufacturer from 2013 until the first three quarters of 2018. "The success of Colorado helped reignite the midsize truck segment. It changed what customers expected from a midsize truck, brought new customers to Chevrolet and has inspired competitors to follow Chevy's lead" said Sandor Piszar, director of Marketing for Chevrolet Trucks. 

The Colorado's success has been fueled by one of the broadest lineups in the midsize segment - featuring three powertrains and configurations, in addition to a wide range of models and special editions. Both of the 2019 special releases feature the flow-through "CHEVROLET' lettered grille, first seen on the Colorado ZR2 Bison, which is also available as an accessory for an MSRP of $395 plus installation and tax. 

The Z71 Trail Runner features the Z71 off-road package and adds the ZR2's underbody protection. Additional changes include a stamped aluminum front and mid skid plates, functional rocker protection and Goodyear Duratrac tires. While the RST ramps up the street features offered on the Tahoe, Suburban, and all-new Silverado. With LT trim, monochromatic exterior offset, a black beltline, body side moldings, a black tailgate bowtie, Colorado and RST badges. It's also the first Colorado to offer 20-inch wheels, finished in a low-gloss black.

This Chevy Truck Has over 1 Million Miles on Its Odometer!

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Chevy trucks have built an incomparable legacy of dependability and toughness over the past 100 years. If you head down to Corsicana, Texas, you'll find a 1973 Chevrolet C10 454 that sets a new high watermark for vehicle longevity. Danny Hudson, the proud owner of this Chevy truck, has put over 1 million miles on its odometer. You read that right, 1 million miles.

This incredible feat was not without plenty of hurdles along the way though. Hudson has had to repair some things over the years, and even put in a few new engines, including at one point, a Corvette 427 with three double-barrel carbs. Thankfully Hudson is no stranger to a working under the hood and does all the work on the truck himself. He is ASE certified and a GM Master Tech.

“Things are gonna break,” says Hudson. “I just fix it as it needs it.”

What makes this truck's legendary odometer even more amazing is that Hudson hasn't regularly driven the C10 since 1999. His day-to-day ride ever since is a 2000 Chevy Silverado, with, unsurprisingly, a half-million miles on it.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Chevrolet truck ever produced, Chevy created their Truck Legends program, a fun club of sorts that recognizes and rewards Chevy truck owners with more than 100,000 miles on the odometer or customers who have purchased or leased one or more new Chevy trucks in their lifetime. Danny Hudson and his C10 certainly qualify as Truck Legends along with 5,400 other program members from around the country. Membership affords you exclusive merchandise, decals, special invites to Chevy events, discounts from various Chevy partners, and more. The Chevy Trucks Centennial Celebration, the culmination of this anniversary campaign, will be held at Texas Motor Speedway on December 16th. Celebrate 100 Years of Chevy Trucks with a Truck-Inspired Pandora Station

Along with their Truck Legends program, Chevrolet has partnered with Pandora to create and curate a radio station celebrating 100 years of Chevy Trucks. The Pandora station, called Chevy Truck 100, plays a wide catalog of country music songs referencing pickups and the huge influence they've had on American culture. Songs about driving your truck down back roads, dancing on the tailgate, and the tough, hardworking people who drive pickups can be heard to commemorate a century of Chevy trucks. Chevy Salute's Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Racing Career

Chevrolet is honoring the long and illustrious career of NASCAR driver and Team Chevy family member, Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is retiring from racing at the end of this season. His 22 of years of racing will be celebrated in a commercial, depicting the major milestones in his career. The 30-second spot, called "What a Ride," will be shown throughout the rest of the race season until the year-end NASCAR championship banquet celebration.

During his retirement speech, Earnhardt Jr. spoke about his partnership with the Detroit-motor brand,  "It’s an honor to carry the Chevrolet bowtie on my cars. And I don’t just mean that on the race track — I’m Chevrolet for life."

George Springer Wins World Series MVP, 2018 Silverado Centennial Edition

For his achievement of winning the 2017 Willie Mays World Series MVP, George Springer, centerfielder for the Houston Astros, was awarded a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado Centennial Edition. Springer led the Astros to the franchise's first World Series championship by going 11-for-29 with seven RBI and five home runs. His home run total ties the record for most home runs in a World Series.
