Fall Fashion Essentials You Need In Your Closet

If you're a Michigander, you might know of clothing items that are a must have for the weather we experience during the fall season. If you're a student that needs to walk to class most days of the week, you might have an even more extensive essentials list to ensure you're warm and protected outside through whatever weather Michigan brings. Here are our picks for fall fashion essentials you need in your closet.

1. Duck Boots & Hunter Boots

Both styles of boots offer weather/water proof protection for your little piggies, so they don't go "wee wee wee we're wet and cold" all the way home. You can find them in different colors so you can get ones that suit most of your fall outfits, however, we enjoy the simple brown and black options.  
      

2. Crocheted or Knitted Infinity Scarf

While all scarves are great, the infinity style is the easiest to throw on when you're headed out, and is arguably one of the most comfy. Plus, in a material like wool or in a crocheted/knitted pattern it'll feel extra warm and comfy, like a fuzzy little kitten hugging your neck. Again there are millions of colors and patterns to choose from, so go with what you like!

3. Leather Gloves 

We believe everyone should invest in a good pair of leather gloves! They're warm, they provide good grip (especially on a cold steering wheel), and they're insanely stylish and classic. If you think leather gloves are for your grandparents, think again. They'll always be in, and there are more affordable options now than ever and in multiple styles. Just make sure to find the right fit, they should be slightly snug and reach just to below your wrist.

4. Cardigans, Cardigans, Cardigans!

Button up cardigans, open faced cardigans, cardigans with buttons, colorful cardigans, patterned cardigans, etc. the list could go on forever. Having a few staple cardigans that you can pair with multiple other clothing items is your best bet. For those lazy days, sunday mornings, and occasions when you just feel like being sassy, graphic sweaters are the perfect option. Just a regular fleece pullover crew neck will do the job! Go big and baggy for a blanket like feeling, or snug for a more fitted image. If you're on a budget, check out the local Goodwill or Salvation Army. 

7. Warm Wool Socks

You might be thinking chunky knit wool socks, but there are also many thin wool sock options that meet professional standards and fit well with most shoes. Wool is one of the warmest and most natural materials and will keep your feet extra toasty in boots. Even if they get wet, they retain a lot of warmth. You can easily find shorter socks, but we recommend grabbing a long pair for lounging at home. 

8. Hooded & Weather Proof Jackets

While it's good to have a go-to jacket for the fall season, it's also good to have plenty of options. Buying good quality materials and colors/patterns that will stand the test of time is important. Some staples include: a solid color raincoat with a hood, a stylish leather jacket for nights out on the town, a cloth shell jacket for lighter days, a heavy fleece lined jacket for colder days, and a peacoat for business professional occasions. 

9. Fleece Lined Leggings

Leggings are still all the rage, and there are plenty of options to choose from. If you're someone who lives in leggings, it's worthwhile to spend a little more on a good quality pair. For those extra chilly days, consider fleece lined leggings to keep your gams cozy and warm. Make sure to pair your leggings with tall socks, boots, and long jackets or sweaters to keep yourself warm.
