How the 2018 Chevy Equinox Makes Driving Safer

MT. PLEASANT, Mich., – Whether you're driving alone or with a group, safety is the priority of every vehicle owner. While it is impossible to predict the behavior of other drivers, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox's cutting-edge safety features improve the safety of the driver, its passengers, and any other drivers on the road. Learn about how the 2018 Chevy Equinox makes driving safer with its wide variety of features and improved safety-first design.

Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator

Forward Collision Alert provides notifications to the driver through sound alerts and a display on their center dashboard if a collision with a vehicle or object in front of the Equinox is imminent. The Forward Collision Alert then applies the brakes to either reduce damage to the vehicle or can ultimately prevent an accident from occurring. Forward Collision Alert comes with a Following Distance Indicator, which provides notifications to drivers if they are tailgating or driving too close to a fellow driver on the road. If you are driving a 2018 Equinox, this advanced feature benefits not only you, but the surrounding drivers as well.

Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning:

Lane Keep Assist technology helps to keep drivers in their lane. If a driver unintentionally drifts into another lane, the center display will illuminate, alerting drivers with a warning and an emergency sound. If the driver continues to drift, the Lane Departure Warning technology will kick in, gently nudging the steering wheel to keep drivers in their appropriate lane to reduce the chances of an accident.

Side Blind Zone Alert

Side Blind Zone Alert provides foresight to drivers that are traveling on streets or highways with multiple lanes. It notifies and alerts drivers when vehicles are in their blind spots to keep them alert if they plan on merging into other lanes. Using short radar sensors, Side Blind Zone Alert improves the safety of drivers in the Equinox and other surrounding vehicles as well.

How the 2018 Chevy Equinox Makes Driving Safer

Rear Cross Traffic Alert:

Whether you're backing out of your driveway or a parking spot, Rear Cross Traffic Alert works with the standard Rear-End Camera to alert drivers of incoming traffic or hazards as they back out of their parking spots. The center display will notify the driver with sound and visual alerts, using radar technology to detect nearby hazards.

How the 2018 Chevy Equinox Makes Driving Safer

Surround Vision

One of the newest features available to owners of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is the addition of Surround Vision technology. Using radar technology and four cameras installed in the front, back, and both sides of the vehicle, drivers are given a 360-degree view of the Equinox's exterior. Surround Vision is utilized when drivers put their 2018 Equinox into reverse, assisting drivers with pulling out in order to avoid hazards on every angle of the Equinox. When drivers shift their vehicle into Drive, Surround Vision displays a frontal view of the Equinox for a short time to display any hazards that the driver may not initially notice.

Safety Features Worth Having in Your Next Car

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.–– Safety on the road is more important than ever before! According to the National Security Council, vehicle deaths in 2016 went up by 6% and were the highest they've been since 2007. While remaining cautious and aware on the road will greatly reduce your chances of getting into a car accident, additional safety features in newer vehicles can also help to prevent accidents from occurring. Read on to learn about the new safety features worth having in your next car, and get all of the information on them for when you finally purchase your next vehicle. To learn what vehicles offer these features, take a look at our vehicle inventory to preview each vehicle's unique safety features and their benefits!

Safety Features Worth Having in Your Next Car

Lane Keep Assist

Lane Keep Assist technology is a camera-based system that alerts you when you unintentionally drift into another lane. If you don't move back into your lane and continue to drift, the system will gently nudge your steering wheel to keep you in your lane. The technology monitors the patterns of the road and alerts you through your vehicle dashboard display with images and audio alerts to keep you aware on the road. Lane Keep Assist technology also ensures your accountability on the road by sending you alerts when you don't use your turn signals. This keeps you and others safer on multi-lane roads and highways.

Forward Safety Awareness

Similar to Lane Keep Assist, Forward Safety Awareness technology uses cameras to monitor and then alert you of impending danger in front of the vehicle, reminding drivers to keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead of them. The technology uses a radar system to alert you of slowing vehicles ahead of you through your vehicle dashboard display and sound. If an imminent collision is about to occur, the Forward Safety Awareness technology will automatically apply brakes to either reduce the damage of a collision or prevent it from occurring at slower speeds.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert

Rear Cross Traffic Alert technology informs you of approaching drivers or hazards as you back out of parkings spots or driveways with radar technology and the vehicle's rear-facing camera. Using the vehicle dashboard display, Rear Cross Traffic Alert gives you a clear image of the area behind the vehicle, providing alerts for moving objects, nearby hazards, and radar to protect you from backing into anything. This technology works hand-in-hand with Rear Camera technology, which is standard on every new General Motors vehicle.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Available on most modern GM vehicles, Adaptive Cruise Control technology helps to improve traditional cruise control technology with new, advanced features. It allows you to adjust your cruise control speed to automatically match the drivers in front of you, virtually eliminating the need to constantly brake and accelerate to accommodate others' speeds. You can also adjust the "follow gap", or space between other vehicles, to give other drivers a short or wide berth so they're able to merge into your lane accordingly.

Front and Rear Parking Assist

With Front and Rear Parking Assist technology, you'll never have to worry about parking in a difficult spot again! Front and rear facing cameras on the vehicle provide digital guidelines and alerts to help you adjust your position to prevent you from hitting other vehicles. This technology is poised to help everyone, from new drivers to experts, and can be used in parallel park situations to ease the process and make it significantly less stressful for drivers. This technology is standard on most GM models and is a great additional feature to compliment your new ride!

While it is impossible to predict the behaviors of other drivers, remaining aware and alert from the moment you pull out of your driveway to the moment you park will help greatly reduce your chances of getting in an accident. These safety features worth having in your next car will help to further reduce your risk, but should be used in conjunction with your alertness! Don't use these safety features as an excuse to not pay attention on the road. In the event of an accident, first, follow our FAQ on car accidents, then call us for additional accident assistance. We can assist you through the entire process, from towing your vehicle to contacting your insurance. Don't hesitate to ask for help!

At Graff Buick GMC Cadillac, we strive to provide our customers with a car buying experience that is accommodating, stress-free and fun! Summer Road Trip Tips

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.–– The warm weather and packed gas stations can only mean one thing: road trip season is underway! If you're heading on a road trip this year, you can save money and enjoy the journey with these summer road trip tips! Not only will you save money, but you'll also be able to maximize the fun of your vacation! Whether you're taking a cross-country trip or are simply heading up north for a getaway, these go-to tips will give you the fuel you need to make any inconveniences you encounter simply a bump in the road!

Summer Road Trip Tips

  • Charge Your Phone: Before you leave, make sure your phone has a full battery! You won't want to leave without it, and in case you encounter an emergency like a flat tire, having a fully charged phone will allow you to call for help if you need it.
  • Play the Alphabet Game: If your kids get bored and you need to entertain them, play the Alphabet Game! While you drive, look for a word that starts with the letter A, then from there, go down the alphabet until you reach Z! It's a great way to distract the family, especially when you reach that pesky letter Q!
  • Burn a CD: Go a little retro on your trip and burn a 12-track playlist on a good old-fashioned CD! That way, if you hear those songs in the future, it'll be a great reminder of the fun times you had on your vacation. If you have the whole family collaborate, you can create a special memory that everyone can share!
  • Pack a Lot of Snacks: Keeping a steady supply of snacks for everyone will eliminate or reduce the chances of time consuming stops and keep everyone occupied. Pack a wide range of snacks, from string cheese to trail mix to keep everyone full and satisfied!
  • Check on Your Spare Tire: You never know what kind of situation you may run into! Make sure your spare tire is full of air and has good tread in case you encounter a flat tire and need to get to an auto shop. If you have the space in your vehicle, swapping out the "doughnut" for a full sized spare tire will make a huge difference!
  • Do a Full Vehicle Check-Up: From fluid levels to tire tread, every part of your vehicle plays a huge part in making sure you end up at your destination! If you bring your vehicle into our service center, we can inspect it to make sure it's good to handle your adventure!
  • Clean Your Car Before Your Trip: Doing this will open up more space for packing and make everyone's experience more enjoyable. You can even eliminate the chaos of messiness that will build up on the trip by regularly cleaning your vehicle during your vacation!
  • Bring Lots of Loose Change: Toll booths can pop up out of nowhere and some can be surprisingly costly. Make sure you have loose change available to you to cover the costs so you won't have to pay the bill at a later date!
  • Ask a Local Where to Eat: When you make stops on your trip, try asking around where you should grab a bite to eat. Chances are, they know the area a little better than a guidebook would, and can point you to a cheaper and tastier restaurant!
  • Keep an Open Plan: The best advice we can give to people looking to go on road trips is to not have a very rigid plan. You may surprise yourself at the amount of fun you run into by just going with the flow! There are plenty of hidden gems in the United States and other parts of the world that can only be found if you stumble across them, so keep an open mind and schedule!

In our opinion, even the best road trips seldom go according to plan! So make sure you're ready for any situation this year with some summer road trip tips to maximize your fun this season! This summer, enjoy every second of your journey with some amazing memories and great tricks to enjoy the adventure ahead. If you want your vehicle looked at before you leave or need maintenance done, schedule an appointment with us and we'll be more than happy to help!

GM Produces First Self-Driving Chevrolet Vehicles

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.–– The future is right around the corner. Last month, GM announced that it had finished production of 130 self-driving Chevrolet Bolt vehicles. GM believes that this will help them gain a foothold in the race to create autonomous vehicles. Get a firsthand look into the future of driving as GM produces the first self-driving Chevrolet vehicles! While the timetable for these vehicles hasn't been released to the public, this technology's inception will revolutionize driving for everyone in the future. Read on to learn more about Chevrolet's cutting-edge autonomous vehicle's features!

GM Produces First Self-Driving Chevrolet Vehicles

The self-driving Chevy Bolt EV vehicles were revealed at the Orion Assembly Plant last month. GM has vowed to be the first car company to produce mass-marketed self-driving vehicles to the public, and with the revelation of the autonomous Bolt EV, are showing that they're capable of mass producing these vehicles. These Bolt EV vehicles are Level-4 autonomous vehicles, which means they're able to drive themselves in most situations, but need someone alert and ready behind the wheel to take control in case of any emergencies.

The Bolt's LIDAR, or laser radar technology, gives the vehicle a 360 degree view of its surroundings to allow it to adjust its speed and brake accordingly. They are equipped with sensors, radars, and cameras to keep their drivers safe in any situation, but can still be driven like a normal vehicle if need be.

"Each LIDAR has 32 lasers and spins 360 degrees, providing a detailed view of the world to the car," said Kyle Vogt, CEO of Cruise Automation, a company acquired by GM last year that develops the software necessary to operate self-driving cars. “There are even a couple of cameras that are dedicated just to seeing traffic lights to make sure you don’t run red lights.”

GM's CFO, Chuck Stevens, has vowed to run the self-driving department like a Silicon Valley startup company, investing over $150 million per quarter in the technology to make sure it's available to the public soon. They have also hired over 1,000 new engineers to help produce and innovate this technology at an accelerated rate to market it to the public. While other vehicle companies like Ford and BMW have promised to publicly sell autonomous vehicles by 2021, GM hopes to have their self-driving cars on the road sooner than that with additional help from their investments and engineering prowess.

The Chevy Bolt EV is available to consumers today, with its award-winning capabilities and state-of-the-art technology. While it may not have self-driving technology yet, you can learn more about its features with our model overview. You can download the brochure, read up on its capabilities, and check prices, too! Last month, GM produced its first self-driving Chevrolet vehicle, and soon, this futuristic feature will be available to you! The future will be in your hands before you know it!
