Multiple Chevy Models Named to "Best of 2018" Lists

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Chevy vehicles have been showing up on a number of "Best of 2018" lists so far this year, including lists from major publications such as Consumer Reports, Car and Driver, and U.S. News & World Report. These lists thoroughly vet and assess the new 2018 models from across the market, and rank only the best of the best. Chevrolet has always prided itself on engineering excellence and for providing amazing vehicles for the American driver. Read on to find out which Chevy vehicles were named to "Best of 2018" lists!

Consumer Reports - 10 Top Picks of 2018: Best Cars of the Year

Consumer Reports went to great lengths to create their 10 Top Picks of 2018: Best Cars of the Year list and two Chevrolets were named among the best of the best. To do so, they assessed each new vehicle from all major motor brands in terms of reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety, while also putting the vehicle through an exhaustive road test. Vehicles that ranked spectacularly well in all four areas made the cut, and were named to their Best Cars of the Year list, including;

Best Large Car: 2018 Chevrolet Impala

"The Impala continues to be a gem among large cars, providing a driving experience that’s more akin to a luxury car. The controls are refreshingly intuitive and easy to use, including the feature-rich infotainment system. Its smooth ride is a true standout, soaking up bumps like a sponge. Those in the market would be wise to consider an Impala." - Consumer Reports

Multiple Chevy Models Named to "Best of 2018" Lists

Best Compact Green Car: 2018 Chevrolet Bolt

"The Bolt proves that electric cars need not apologize for a lack of driving performance. This distinctive-looking hatchback delivers brisk acceleration and tight handling, plus a 250-mile electric range at a mainstream price." - Consumer Reports

Multiple Chevy Models Named to "Best of 2018" Lists

Car and Driver - 2018 10Best Cars

A notable and well-respected automotive news and review organization, Car and Driver released their 2018 10Best Cars list recently, and two Chevy models made the cut. After two weeks of extensive hands-on evaluation of new 2018 model vehicles, Car and Driver experts drove and tested the sedans, trucks, and SUVs out on the track, checked out what was under the hood and inside the cabin, while also assessing the full functionality of their infotainment systems. The vehicles considered for this prestigious list must have a sale price under $80,000 and be either a returning winner, or an all-new or significantly revised model.

2018 Chevrolet Camaro V-6 / SS / ZL1 Coupes

"Imagine meeting Vin Diesel and discovering that he has a law degree, quotes Robert Frost, and speaks with an English accent worthy of royalty. Maybe he is all that; we don’t know—we’ve never met him. That’s the Camaro’s story as well: You can’t know it until you’re one on one with it, preferably on a challenging two-lane road. It is there that the Camaro will demolish your preconceptions, one corner at a time." - Car and Driver

Multiple Chevy Models Named to "Best of 2018" Lists

2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

"The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport needs little introduction as a mega-performance bargain worthy of our 10Best Cars list, and 2018 marks the second year in a row that the Grand Sport targa and convertible have made the cut. From its Lightning Lap exploits to our current long-term test car, it is a track-day thriller and an unflinching ally on winding back roads. Factor in impressive civility at a price that massively undercuts any exotic of similar dynamic capability, and the Grand Sport earns its place again for being one of the best sports-car buys available." - Car and Driver

Multiple Chevy Models Named to "Best of 2018" Lists

U.S. News & World Report - The Best New Cars Arriving in 2018

U.S. News & World Report is a world renowned reporting authority, and their automotive branch recently released a list of The Best New Cars Arriving in 2018, which includes two Chevy models. Criteria for inclusion on the list requires the 2018 models to be all-new or significantly redesigned.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox

"Chevrolet’s redesigned Equinox is a safe bet if you are looking for a compact crossover that includes plenty of features." - U.S. News & World Report

Multiple Chevy Models Named to "Best of 2018" Lists

2018 Chevrolet Traverse

"With class-leading cargo space, cavernous seating for up to eight, and lots of in-cabin storage, the Chevy Traverse is a great SUV. This large family hauler feels composed when driving, with easy steering and braking. The Traverse rides comfortably, even on rough pavement or while handling curves with enthusiasm. Technology features are intuitive, as well." -U.S. News & World Report

How to Prepare for a Spring Break Road Trip

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– If you've got plans to escape the frigid winter weather of Michigan and are taking a trip to driving somewhere south for Spring Break, we're very jealous of you. However, we would caution you that before you embark on your road trip, your vehicle may not be up to the task without some help! Families, college students, friends, and pretty much everyone should make sure to know how to prepare their car for a spring break road trip. Read on to learn the tips and maintenance suggestions to make your vehicle comfortable and capable of taking the long drive to your Spring Break destination.

How to Prepare for a Spring Break Road Trip

Get an Oil Change

Getting an oil change before a long road trip is very important. Your motor will be running continually for long stretches of miles (and hours) and if your oil is old it won't do its job effectively, lubricating your engine's internal components and keeping them from warping and doing serious damage.

Check Your Fluids

The fluids in your vehicle help keep your internal and external parts clean and running properly. Washer fluid and coolant are easy enough to replenish in your vehicle by picking some up at your local auto parts supplier, or our service technicians can always top off your fluids during your next service appointment at Graff Chevrolet Mt. Pleasant Service Center. With long hours of driving to your spring break destination, your coolant is especially important to help keep your engine from overheating, so make sure you've filled up before you leave for your trip. You don't want to wind up with engine trouble stuck on the side of the road midway to your destination.

Check/Replace Your Wiper Blades

Your wiper blades may be a bit worse for wear coming out of the winter season this year, and ineffective at clearing your windshield properly during rain, sleet, or snow. So before you head out on your spring break road trip, it's important to check your windshield wiper blades to see if they need to be replaced. You don't want to get caught driving on the highway during heavy rain and have to pull off because you can't see the road well due to your streaky windshield wipers, adding more time to an already long road trip.

Check Your Battery

After winter, it's important to get your battery checked to make sure that the freezing cold weather hasn't reduced its capabilities. Our experienced technicians run a simple diagnostic test to see if it's time to get a new battery.

Check Your Tire Tread

As one of the most important components of your vehicle, you want to take tire care seriously. Check your vehicle's tire tread to ensure they are in good enough condition to handle a long trip and effectively stop and handle well out on the road. If you're not sure, use the penny test to determine if your tire tread is satisfactory. Place a penny in-between the treads on your tire with Lincoln's head facing down, if the tread doesn't cover the top of his head, it's time for new tires.

Do Some Spring Cleaning

Your vehicle will likely get a bit messy during your road trip from food wrappers, receipts, crumbs, and other such debris. So, why not start your trip with a tidy vehicle and do some spring cleaning. At the very least, take your vehicle to a car wash and make sure to vacuum up all the road salt and debris tracked in during the winter.

Plan For Rest Time & Switch Drivers

If you're heading out on a long road trip, plan on taking some to rest time from driving and/or switch drivers frequently. Drowsy driving can be just as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol.

Create a Roadside Preparedness Kit

To prepare for anything and everything, we recommend creating a roadside preparedness kit. Stock your car with bottled water, road flares, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, blankets, and make sure you have a spare tire and jack just in case.

Bring a Map

While it's easy nowadays to rely on your phone's GPS and navigation systems, you may wind up driving through places with bad cell phone signal. If you take the wrong turn, you could wind up way off track and add more time to your trip. So, bring an old-fashioned paper map to ensure you'll always know how to get where you're going!

Don't Forget a Mobile Phone Charger

Whether its an adapter so you can charge your phone in the car, or a mobile battery to take on your vacation, consider investing in a way to keep your phone from dying on your spring break trip.

Get Roadside Assistance

If you don’t have roadside assistance through your insurance, consider getting AAA. That way, if your vehicle breaks down while on your trip, you’ll always have someone ready to come to the rescue!

So before heading out on vacation, make sure you've prepared your vehicle for your fun and excited Spring Break road trip! Also, maybe you're looking for a new ride to show off this spring? Browse our online inventory of stylish and capable new 2018 Chevrolet models! Then, schedule a test drive with our friendly sales staff to experience them in person and find the right sedan, SUV, or truck to suit your lifestyle!

7 Tips for a Healthy Heart During American Heart Month

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the country and throughout the world, according to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). So with February being American Heart Month, we've compiled a list of 7 tips for a healthy heart that will help you to live a long, full life for yourself, family, and loved ones. Read on to learn more about healthy habits that will decrease your risk of heart disease and stroke.

7 Tips for a Healthy Heart During American Heart Month

1. Eat Healthier

There are a variety of aspects to eating healthier in order to benefit your heart health. Including:
  • Generally, you should be eating fresh fruit, lean proteins, raw nuts, and complex whole grains.
  • Eating at least 30g of fiber every day will help lower your risk of heart disease. You can fiber from a variety of sources including wholemeal bread, bran, oats, wholegrain cereals, potatoes with their skins on, and vegetables.
  • Avoid salt to help maintain healthy blood pressure levels and therefor your cardiovascular health. Use less in your cooking at home, and avoid pre-made packaged food with high sodium labels. You can check the nutrition labels to make a food you're consuming isn't over 200 mg per serving.
  • Reduce the amount of food you eat that contains high saturated fat levels because it increases your cholesterol, negatively affecting your heat. Stick to leaner cuts of meat and lower-fat dairy products like 1% fat milk.
  • Avoid refined and processed sugar. Instead treat yourself to natural and high-quality sweeteners such as honey, dark chocolate, and maple syrup. Everyone's favorite drinks such as soda, juices, energy drinks, and coffee are some of the biggest culprits of excessive sugar intake in our diets, so try to reduce or eliminate your intake.

2. Quit Smoking

Avoiding tobacco and quitting smoking is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy. Smoking increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases because it damages the lining of your arteries, allowing fatty material to build up and narrowing the artery. This can lead to coronary heart disease and stroke. Quitting can be tough, but its extremely important to do so for your long-term heart health. So start today, and quit smoking!

3. Reduce Your Alcohol Intake

In addition to its other various negative consequences to your body, alcohol, especially beer, contains a lot of calories. Regular or binge drinking can make you gain a lot of weight, causing issues with your heart health and circulation. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), adult men should consume no more than four drinks in one day, and no more than 14 drinks in a week. For adult women, they should consume no more than three drinks in a day and no more than seven drinks in a week.

4. Stay Clean

You wouldn't think so, but cleanliness and personal hygiene is extremely important when it comes to heart health. Make sure to brush your teeth, wash your hands, and bathe each day to stay clean and to protect your body from the flu, germs, and other bacteria which can cause heart-damaging infections. We also recommend washing any fresh foods and cleaning/disinfecting your cooking and meal prep surfaces before you begin cooking.

5. Work Out

A regular work out routine including weight lifting and cardiovascular exercise, of at least 30-minutes each day, can have a huge positive impact on your heart health. Working out is especially important if you’re overweight or have a history of heart disease in your family. Start slow, and work your way up to a sweat-inducing workout regime!

6. Destress

Stress is a killer. Stress causes your body to release adrenaline, causing your breathing and heart rate to speed up and your blood pressure to rise. Stress will likely also make you revert to harmful behavior such as smoking cigarettes, overeating, and not exercising which all is detrimental to your heart health. So each day or whenever you feel the need, take a moment to relax and unwind. Breathing exercises are a great way to destress, or taking a long solitary walk will help calm your nerves and lower your pulse and blood pressure.

7. Get Sleep

It is extremely important to get getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. Sleep is when your body recovers each day and builds its strength back up. So, this winter is not the time to be staying up late and not getting your rest. Shortened sleep can also increase CRP, or C-reactive protein, which is released with stress and inflammation, and increase insulin resistance, a risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. So getting quality, uninterrupted sleep each night is very important and should not be dismissed or ignored.

So make sure to follow these 7 tips for a healthy heart during American Heart Month and throughout the rest of your life. For more information on heart disease, how you can reduce your risk, and much more, we recommend consulting the American Heart Association website. This time of year, it's also important to look after the health of your vehicle. Complete our Winter Car Care maintenance routine to ensure your sedan, truck, or SUV's internal components don't get worn down, broken, or disabled by the cold weather or poor road conditions.

Auto Service Valentines Day Gifts for Your Car

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– As Valentines Day approaches, and you prepare to celebrate with your sweetheart, you'll need cards, flowers, chocolates, and all of the usual gifts. But, have you thought about what to get your car? Right, we know it may seem silly to get your car a Valentines Day gift, but think of all that your sedan, truck, or SUV does for you, especially this time of year during the harsh winter weather! Show your car some love by taking care of it with these auto service Valentines Day gift ideas!

Auto Service Valentines Day Gifts for Your Car

Car Detailing/Car Wash

Throughout the winter, your vehicle is subjected to slush, mud, and corrosive road salt that will damage your paint job and rust out the undercarriage. Regular car washes and detailing will protect the integrity of your vehicle's exterior and keep it looking as good as the day you bought it. Show your vehicle you car about it and get it washed and waxed on Valentines Day.

Wiper Blade Replacement

With all the ice that builds up on your windshield and wiper blades during the winter, they are likely to break down from wear and tear. When they do break or tear, your wiper blades won't be able to effectively keep your windshield clear and clean while you're driving, which is important to your safety. If you're in need, stop into our service department to get your windshield wipers replaced today.

Floor Mats

To help your vehicle stay clean, we recommend purchasing a set of Weather Tech Mats for Valentines Day. Weather Tech Mats are the top product for catching and containing all the snow and such that clings to your boots when you enter a vehicle during the winter. Allowing this snow and slush to soak into your floor carpet will allow the corrosive road salt in the slush to cause unsightly stains and corrode the metal floor underneath the carpet.

Portable Hand Vacuum

To keep your interior clean and tidy, consider purchasing a handheld vacuum for your car. A clean car will just plain feel better, and keep your car looking as brand new as the day you first bought it!

Oil Change

When's the last time you got an oil change? We hope it wasn't too long ago, as it is critically important to your vehicle to get an oil change every 3,000–5,000 miles. Bring your vehicle into our Graff Mt Pleasant Service Department for an oil change this month, that way your car, truck, or SUV will run better and you won't have to worry about your engine overheating and warping internal components.

Winter Car Care

While winter continues to blanket Michigan in snow and ice, it's important to protect your vehicle and its internal components from the freezing temperatures and poor road conditions. Our Winter Car Care maintenance routine includes inspecting your tires, brakes, battery, and more to make sure your vehicle handles well on the icy roads and doesn't break down or become disabled out in the cold.

Spring Care Care

Once winter comes to an end, which thankfully isn't too far off, completing your Spring Car Care maintenance routine will be important. The toll winter has taken on your vehicle will be significant and to avoid further damage and get your vehicle running in top condition, you should bring it into our service center to get its alignment and suspension adjusted, fluids refilled, and much more. Pamper your car so that its ready to shine come springtime!

GM and Chevrolet recently auctioned off two exclusive Corvette models to raise money for charitable organizations that benefit and provide support for our veterans. The two vehicles included a Corvette Carbon 65 Edition coupe signed by President George W. Bush and a 2019 Corvette ZR1. The two Corvettes drew a combined $2.325 million in charitable donations for the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative and Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation respectively. These organizations both provide services and support for veterans and their families. Specifically, the Bush Center’s Military Service Initiative works to help post-9/11 veterans and their families make successful transitions to civilian life, gain meaningful employment, and overcome the psychological toll of war. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, through their Building for America’s Bravest program, provides mortgage-free smart homes designed to accommodate the needs of severely wounded veterans.
