MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - This week, General Motors announced that Chevy is adding Theft Alarm Notifications to its Vehicle Assistance Service. The exciting new service option allows those who subscribe to OnStar to receive real-time alerts when the vehicle's alarm sounds. These alerts can be received via SMS text, email or by phone and will be available to eligible subscribers this summer.
This innovative feature is just one of the many OnStar is upgrading this year, which include Remote Ignition Block and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. With such prompt responses and quick awareness of theft situations, customers have a greater chance to recover stolen vehicles and property. If a vehicle is stolen that is equipped with this feature (and other OnStar features), OnStar advisors will work with local law enforcement and use the GPS technology to locate the vehicle and pinpoint its location.
The Theft Alarm notifications will be sent to your chosen device by using glass breakage sensors, interior motion sensors and an inclination/tilt sensor which sounds the alarm if it detects the vehicle is being lifted off the ground, a break-in is detected or if motion is detected within the vehicle then the alarm is armed.
Chevy is adding Theft Alarm Notifications to its Vehicle Assistance Service, which most 2014 model year and newer Chevrolet models are equipped to offer.
