Deer Season Driving Tips

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Fall is a fun time to drive around and see the changing colors, but it can be a dangerous time for driving, especially in the country, due to deer. During this time of year we see an increase in deer related crashes as hunting season gets underway and deer breading season peaks in November. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, rural areas and roads with a speed limit of 55 MPH or higher are most likely to be the scene for deadly deer crashes. It's important to stay aware no matter what road you are on, and with a few simple deer season driving tips you can avoid becoming a deer-crash statistic.

1. Deer are generally most active during dusk and dawn hours, so it is important to be particularly alert during your morning and evening commutes to and from work and home.

2. Where there is one, there will likely be more. Deer usually travel in groups, so if you see a deer make sure to slow down and keep an eye out for more since they will most likely be nearby.

3. Staying alert, constantly scanning the road, and utilizing your high beams when there is no opposing traffic, can help you spot a deer that may be lurking near the side of the road. If you see any illuminated eyes or dark shadows, slow down and be prepared to stop.

4. One of the worst, and most dangerous, things you can do to avoid hitting a deer is swerve. Chances are, you will end up hitting another vehicle, tree, or other object, which can be a more serious collision than hitting the deer. The best thing you can do is to brake firmly, stay in your lane, and hold the steering wheel steady until you come to a controlled stop.

5. If you do get into an accident with a deer, make sure to turn on your emergency flashers and pull over to the side of the road so that other vehicles can see you. Stay in your vehicle, and never approach the deer.

6. Last but not least, remember that in your Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, or GMC vehicle, you can press the OnStar button for assistance in any type of situation.

Better Performance, Efficiency, and Capability - 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.––This week, on the Autumnal Equinox, Chevrolet has revealed their new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. While the newest model of Chevy's most popular crossover won't be available until the first quarter of 2017, there are plenty of reasons to get excited now. Updates to technology, a complete redesign inside and out, plus new engine options leave the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with better performance, efficiency, and capability.

The new design of the 2018 Equinox is something you can't help but notice. The body looks much more muscular and has a wider stance and sharper edges as a result of aero development in wind tunnel testing. The overall look of the crossover is sleek and follows suit of Chevrolet's global design cues similar to those found on the Malibu, Cruze, and Volt. The Equinox will also follow suit with LED running daytime lamps, LED projector-beam headlights, and the option for LED taillights. Not to mention, like the Malibu, chrome accents will be standard on all trims.

The size of the vehicle, even if you haven't noticed, has changed. Even with the wide stance, the Equinox has gotten smaller. The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox has lightened up by 400 pounds, yet still maintains great cargo space of 63.5 cubic inches. Within the cabin, it feels more roomy, and the seating offers better ergonomics. Elements like the lower and more forward dashboard helps the car feel more open, and gives drivers and passengers a better view of the road.

An entire slew of new features will come along in the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. Some of the new safety features include: Safety Alert Seat, Surround Vision, Lane Keep Assist, Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking, Rear Seat Reminder, Teen Driver, and more! Not to mention the newest technology like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be available through the latest Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system.

Last but not least, the Chevrolet Equinox will be the first model in 2018 to offer an all-turbo, multi-engine, powertrain lineup. You'll be able to get the 2018 Equinox with a 1.5L turbocharged engine, 1.6L diesel turbocharged engine, or a 2.0L turbocharged engine. With these options, a buyer will be able to better choose their future vehicle based on what kind of performance and efficiency they desire. Whichever option, the lack of 400 pounds and and Switchable AWD leaves the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox more efficient than ever before.

If you're excited about the better performance, efficiency, and capability of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, you'll unfortunately have to wait until next year. 2017 Tahoe and Suburban Will Be Available in a Midnight Edition

5 Easy Carpool Maintenance Tips

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.––It's that time of the year! School is back in session, the kids are gone for most of the day, and the stress of homework and extracurriculars has begun. While we can't help make life easier by taking the homework away, we can help you stress less by offering 5 easy carpool maintenance tips. Whether it's you or your neighbor toting the kids to school, sports practices, or other errands, you want to make sure your students and other carpool passengers are safe! By running through a simple routine maintenance check at Graff Mt. Pleasant, you'll have a little peace of mind knowing your vehicle won't cause your carpool any grief to or from your destination.

1. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. 

The first step is to look either in your owner's manual or at the sticker on the inside of your driver's side door to determine the recommended psi for your tires. Once you have that number, check your tires with a pressure gauge to see if they're over or under inflated. If they're over or under inflated, adjust to the recommended psi. This will ensure your vehicle is running most efficiently and isn't at risk for popping due to over-inflation. While you're checking your tires inflation, take a look at the tread depth and look for any damage.

2. Have your oil changed regularly.

We know it sounds like a broken record, but have your oil changed! Doing so every 3,000-5,000 miles will ensure your engine is running its best. Your oil is responsible for taking heat away from the engine, keeping engine parts lubricated and clean, and for helping parts run their best. Dirt or old oil can cause your engine to overheat and your parts to wear prematurely, which can lead to expensive repairs down the road.

3. Check all your external lights and their function.

This check takes two people to complete, but it takes less than 5 minutes. Grab a buddy and get to checking all your lights and their functions. This means your headlights, fog lights, brights, tail lights, reverse lights, brake lights, turn signals, hazards, etc. Run through each light individually and make a mark of anything that isn't functioning correctly. Your lights allow other drivers and pedestrians to see you. It's important to have the visibility all the time, but especially on foggy or rainy mornings.

4. Change your wiper blades and fill up on washer fluid.

This point is, again, for the ever important visibility factor. While your lights allow others to see you, your clear and clean windshield allows you to see others, and most importantly the road. In Michigan, we're no strangers to snowflakes, back-road dirt, and bug smears on our windshield. These can all make it hard to see. Making sure your wiper blades function as they should, and your washer fluid is always available is a vital step to your and your carpool's safety.

5. Have your battery tested at your next oil change.

The extreme heat and cold weather can take a toll on your car's battery, so it's important to have your battery checked regularly throughout the year. This will ensure you have enough "juice" to start your car. No one wants to be stuck with the responsibility of carpooling a group to school and a car that suddenly won't start! With a simple battery check at your next oil change, you won't have to worry about your car not starting. Batteries usually last anywhere from 2-5 years, but can be run out more quickly from leaving a light on or charger plugged in.

Midsize Chevrolet Colorado 8-Speed V6 Will Be Available Later This Year

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.––If you're looking for more performance and better fuel economy in a pickup truck, you'll want to pay attention to the Chevy Colorado. This truck has only been on the market since 2015, but is aimed to make significant gains in its second year with better engine offerings. The midsize Chevrolet Colorado 8-speed V6 will be available later this year in goals of "reigniting" the midsize segment.

“Customers made the Colorado an overnight success and it remains one of the industry’s hottest-selling products,” said Anita Burke, Colorado chief engineer. “That fast success has justified our continued investment in midsize pickups, introducing new features for our customers such as the class-exclusive diesel engine, advanced technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and now a class-leading V-6 and eight-speed automatic powertrain combination.”

The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado is an improvement on the already most fuel efficient truck in America (diesel). The wider gear ratio in the new 8-speed transmission allows drivers to feel more confident in taking off with a heavy load in the bed or a heavy trailer behind, and reduced engine rpm on the highway for better fuel efficiency.
