Summer in Michigan: Four Ways to Make it Memorable

Summer in Michigan: Four Ways to Make it Memorable

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Summer has arrived here in Michigan and that changes things quite a bit. People are not sticking around their home, cities, or towns. They are going elsewhere near the water in order to enjoy the summer weather while we have it. Those who are fans of the lakes around the state are in luck for what summer brings. You can go to the beaches and enjoy the sunshine. Maybe, you play some beach volleyball. You could be interested in going swimming too. With all the summer fun available in Michigan, there is no shortage of activities to keep you busy while you take advantage of the beauty that is out there. To determine which activities could be best for you to involve yourself in this summer, it could be helpful to take a look at all of the opportunities presented out in the sunshine:

Summer in Michigan: Four Ways to Make it Memorable

1.) Taking A Road Trip Up North:

The first part of your trip is likely jumping in the car. No matter where your trip is, it may involve a bit of driving, whether that is 30 minutes somewhere or a few hours. You could be heading out to Ludington or Grand Haven. Maybe, you are heading straight up to Traverse City or Charlevoix. You might have decided to go somewhere new as opposed to where you normally go. As you head up north or wherever your destination is, having an awesome car makes it all the better. Many great Chevy models exist that can pull your trailer for a boat or be reliable for good gas mileage. Part of your trip is getting there. It’s about the memories you make along the way. Sometimes, those are the memories you cherish the most.

2.) Jump on a Boat

With summer in session and lots of sunshine, there might be no better choice than jumping on a boat. A boat allows you to see all the beauty of summer. You can go places on your boat and check out different islands or connect your boat to another boat. You could be driving down to Lake Erie. You might be heading over to Lake Huron. Perhaps, the UP is your destination and Lake Superior is your choice. Tubing or water skiing could be your choice of hobby. You might even decide to spend a night overnight on the water as you enjoy a beautiful sunset. Another time on your boat may involve going fishing or swimming. There’s no better time to spend your summer than on the water in one of your boats.

3.) Going Fishing

When you find yourself up north, there are bodies of water everywhere. There is no shortage of things to do when out on the boat. Your reason for going could be to toss your rods on the boat and just relax while you are seeking to catch some fish. You might be doing so in order to find food for dinner. Otherwise, it may be for the pure sport of it all. Many fishermen just enjoy being out there and seeing what kind of fish they can catch or how many fish they could end up getting. It is a great thing to do when you are looking for something different. Some fishing might just involve a dock and a rod. Other types of fishing may have you out in the water yourself. Explore some of the different options of the sport.

4.) Playing Sports

With it being warm out, there is no better time than to play some great sports. You could be out with a glove, ball, and bat playing baseball. Alternatively, you might want to get your basketball out and hit the court. For the summer, it might be great to play a game of soccer with your friends. This could make things a great deal more fun for you. You may choose football instead, if that is what the majority of the group wants to play, it may be more fun to go down that direction. Regardless, the most fun thing is being outside and enjoying the basic nature around you. The sounds and sights could make it all the more beneficial to everything you are involved in. A simple hike may be what you are most up for.

Throughout the summer, there is no shortage of things to do. With it being warm out, it’s the perfect time to buy a new car. Cadillac Continues Rollout of Super Cruise Feature For Other Models

Cadillac super cruise

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – The rollout of the Cadillac Super Cruise, a hands-free freeway driver assistance feature, continues on with the feature becoming available further in 2020 on all different Cadillac models. After it is implemented in Cadillac models, the feature will make its way onto other GM (General Motors) cars. If you are driving on the freeway, such a feature could provide a great deal of increased safety and calm the nerves of many drivers out on the road. The Super Cruise feature is made up of high precision GPS, a state-of-the-art driver attention system, a network of radar and camera sensors, and precision LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) map data. The system requires an active OnStar service plan with functioning emergency services. The system allows drivers to go over 130,000 miles of limited-access freeways in Canada and the USA. This system allows for the drivers to remain focused and it also detects when a driver needs to be more attentive to the road. This does not serve as a reason for drivers to not pay attention to the road. They still need to remain vigilant while driving. GM Global Product Development, Purchasing, and Supply Chain Executive Vice President Mark Reuss said this reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation.

“The expansion of Super Cruise and V2X communications technology demonstrates Cadillac’s commitment to innovation, and to making customers’ lives better,” Reuss stated. “GM is just as committed to ushering in a new era of personal transportation, and technologies like these will enable it.”

That is not the only thing that Cadillac is implementing in their quest to be the most innovative automotive brand out there. The auto brand is looking at offering V2x communications in a high volume crossover, which they can eventually expand across the many different models Cadillac offers. What is intriguing about this development is how Cadillac had introduced vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications on the CTS sedan, using Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) technology, in 2017. They are seeking to utilize the Basic Safety Message as a base on which to build an extension to the roadway between other roadway users such as pedestrians and cyclists and the infrastructure itself. This will establish a V2X ecosystem, and different vehicles will be notified of traffic light statuses, changing work zones, hazardous road conditions, and more. Drivers will be notified of possible threats in time to avoid a crash with a range of around 1,000 feet. Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said this shows that the automotive brand is the leader for GM in the area of cutting-edge innovation.

“Cadillac is proud to be the leader for the company’s innovation,” Carlisle said. “Groundbreaking technologies like these continue to provide unparalleled comfort and convenience for our customers.”

Cadillac continues to make new and exciting decisions about their motor vehicles. Should you be interested in one of their cutting-edge vehicles, Graff Mt. Pleasant can help you discover one of the best vehicles out there. There are many options for you to choose from and our friendly staff of automotive professionals will help you make the selection to best suit your needs and budget.

GMC Elevates 2019 Sierra to New Heights

2019 Sierra

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – GMC continues their bold trek into the future with their introduction of the 2019 GMC Sierra Elevation. The 2019 Sierra sets itself apart because of its designs showcasing black exterior accents. These include the tow hooks, side window trim, the standard 20-inch aluminum wheels, and grille insert. The 2019 Sierra also has a hood with bumpers, a grille surround, and monochromatic door handles. Including chiseled fenders, this vehicle has high-intensity LED headlamps utilizing a C-shaped light blade signature, C-shaped LED elements in the taillights and LED fog lamps. This is a grand showcase of what makes the 2019 GMC Sierra modern and cutting edge.

“The 2019 Sierra Elevation conveys a youthful, athletic presence that demonstrates GMC’s tailored approach,” GMC Marketing Director Rich Latek said. “With inherent truck capabilities and functionality, Elevation is able to take you off the beaten path along with your gear while standing out from the pack.”

The vehicle offers four-wheel-drive or two-wheel-drive configurations. Its basis comes from the double cab model. It has around three inches of additional rear-seat legroom as compared with the current model and double cab front head- and legroom (max).

The 2019 Sierra Elevation showcases a Traction Select System, which allows the driver to choose from many preset modes utilized for various conditions or purposes. An example of this optimum performance comes from the tour mode, which allows for everyday driving. Another variation, the Terrain mode, makes it possible for the 2019 Sierra to performance at its best in adventures away from the traditional path.

If you choose to go down a different path than you usually do, it may be best for you to consider the X31 Off Road package that gives you lock rear differential, Rancho shocks, Hill Descent control, underbody skidplates, a dual exhaust system, a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing and all-terrain tires, and a heavy-duty air filter. This will give you unique suspension. You might wish to take advantage of the ProGrade Trailering System, which utilizes many different features such as the Trailering App. This helps to simplify the directions when connecting your car to your trailer and towing it.

If you are headed somewhere off the normal trail you travel, you might use the GearOn rails that can allow for kayak carriers, bike racks, or many other accessories to be installed for your use. While the 2019 Sierra Elevation boasts an amazing amount of assistance for travel of all kinds, there’s an even greater interest inside the car itself. It contains a 2.7-liter turbocharged engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This allows for 348 lb-ft of torque and 310 horsepower. The 5.3-liter V-8, which utilizes a Dynamic Fuel Management system, allows the engine to work on up to eight cylinders in optimizing the efficiency and power.

Another great feature is the eight-inch GMC Infotainment System, which utilizes both Apple CarPlay compatibility and Android Auto with a six-speaker audio system. The premium GMC Infotainment System has advanced personalization features, voice recognition functionality, higher resolution touchscreen, and optional in-vehicle apps and an optional Bose premium audio system with seven speakers. USB Type A and Type C ports are standard for different mobile devices.

When 2019 rears its head, the 2019 Sierra will be offered with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six-cylinder engine. If you are thinking about picking yourself up this car or another new GMC model, Graff Mt. Pleasant is your one-stop-shop for all your vehicle needs. 2019 yukon

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Two new 2019 Graphite Editions will be added to GMC’s premium Yukon line. The modernistic Yukon Graphite Editions feature various vehicle performance upgrades and a darkened exterior. The vehicles will have 22-inch bright machined wheels with Carbon Flash metallic pockets, a premium black chrome grille mesh insert, fog lamp surrounds, gloss black accents, black roof rails, body-color grille surround, additional black trim, and gloss black beltline moldings.

“The Yukon continues to lead the full-size SUV segment with premium features and an instantly recognizable and well-respected identity,” GMC Trucks and Full-Size SUVs Senior Marketing Manager Stu Pierce said. “The all-new Graphite Edition builds on the commanding road presence and inherent capabilities of the Yukon and affords customers the opportunity to project a unique, yet distinctly GMC style.”

The Graphite Performance Editions will also include a 6.2LV-8 engine. This engine features Active Fuel Management, continued variable valve timing, and direct injection. The variable valve timing provides increased efficiency. It also has 460 lb-ft of torque and 420 horsepower. The engine of these editions is combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission that reduces engine revolutions at highway speeds to improve efficiency. The enhancements to the powertrain add to the Magnetic Ride Control that “reads” the road using sensors and altering the damping rate of shocks close to immediate.

With the torque and power combined, composed ride, and greater efficiency, a positive drive experience can take place. The Graphite Performance Editions also include a 22-inch six-spoke Gloss black wheels and a trailer brake controller. They feature an active two-speed transfer case for 4WD models only and a 170-amp alternator. The editions boast a high capacity air cleaner and Bose Active Noise Cancellation. The vehicles also showcase an eight-inch reconfigurable Driver Information Center and an eight-inch Color Touch Screen Navigation with GMC Infotainment System. The 2019 Yukon and Yukon XL will be available this summer in White Frost Tricoat, Dark Sky Metallic, and Onyx Black.

This builds on the current edition, the 2018 GMC Yukon. The current 2018 Yukon models feature both six-speed shiftable automatic transmission and a 10-speed shiftable automatic transmission. It has seven to eight different seats and V-8 cylinders across all different models. The combined MPG varies from 17-19. Options available include an on-demand four-wheel drive and automatic locking hubs. Rear locking differentials and an electronic hi-lo gear selection are offered alongside an electronic single-speed too on various models.

The 2018 Yukon models boast 14/22 mpg, 16/23 mpg, and 16/22 mpg. The size of the base engine for these models can be 6.2L or 5.3L. The horsepower in these Yukon models varies from 420 hp @ 5600 rpm to 355 hp @ 5600 rpm. The 2018 Yukon models feature a torque going from 460 ft-lbs @ 4100 rpm to 383 ft-lbs @ 4100 rpm. All versions feature direct injection, valve timing, and overhead valves.

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- Summer in Michigan is full of fun events. Camping, water sports, road trips, you name it. However, all that heat and stale air can do quite a number on your car if you keep up certain bad habits (and let's face, we're guilty of all of them).

In order to protect your vehicle, Graff Mt. Pleasant is here with some bad habits that can reduce its performance.

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

1. KEEPING YOUR FUEL TANK LOW

Gas prices are especially high during the summer months, and we've all been there where $10 worth is the best we can do at the time. However, trying to put a little extra in at the pump can save you the more expensive fate of replacing your fuel pump. Many fuel pumps stay cool by being submerged in the fuel tank. If you typically ride the gauge at a quarter tank or less, you risk speeding up wear and tear to your fuel pump.

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

2. RESTING YOUR HAND ON THE SHIFTER

Driving a stick shift is great fun, and having one hand on the shifter and the other on the steering wheel seems like the most natural way to do it. Don't. When you leave your hand on the shifter, it puts added stress on your transmission's bushings and synchronizers, which can lead to premature wear. It's a lot safer to keep both hands on the wheel anyway.

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

3. IGNORING YOUR WARNING LIGHTS

When your check engine, oil or tire pressure light comes on, it's easy to ignore it. "I can leave it for awhile," you might say to yourself, "I've never had any problems before!" Bad move, you. Your vehicle has a ton of sensors underneath all that metal, which are there to monitor the function and condition of different components. When there's a problem, those sensors will notify you on the dashboard, and you should listen. Granted in some cases it may be a false alarm, but bringing your car in for a service appointment with us to have it inspected is a lot cheaper than having to foot the bill for a replacement, not to mention a lot safer than having your engine blow up on the highway.

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

4. SUDDENLY SHIFTING

When you've been driving for a long time, your operating skills become a lot more advanced and your movements more fluid. This is no more evident than in the way you shift gears, such as when you back out of a parking space then immediately shift into drive. It might seem harmless at the time, but sudden shift changes like that can do a lot of damage to your drivetrain. Instead, try to get in the habit of coming to a complete stop before shifting gears. It only costs you one more second and will help to spare you costly engine, transmission, and axle replacements.

5 Bad Habits that Can Damage Your Vehicle

5. HARD STOPS AND EXCESSIVE BRAKING

While it's sometimes necessary to slam on the brakes in order to avoid a collision, you should not make a habit of it. On top of that, excessive use of your brakes, such as when you're following too close to the vehicle in front of you, is not good either. Both can accelerate wear and tear on your brake pads, which can then lead to brake replacements and, if left unchecked, brake reduction and even failure when you're on the road.

We're all guilty of these bad habits that can negatively affect your vehicle's performance, but the good news is all habits can be broken! Now that you know the damage you're causing your car when you do these things, you can work towards reducing and eventually eliminating them. While you're at it, why not schedule a service appointment with us to make sure everything is in tip-top shape?
