Michigan Travel: Four Summer Destinations That Mark The Spot

Michigan travel

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – When you think of going on vacation, more distant locations might come to mind...Florida, California, the Caribbean, or the Bahamas might be your dream vacation spot. However, when summer is in full swing across the United States, Michigan is a prime destination for many seeking not only to get away from it all, but to enjoy all that there is to offer. The Mitten State is home to many different cities that are prime destinations for your summer travels. Whatever type of vacation you seek, check out these Michigan Travel locations for your summer vacation:

1.) Traverse City, MI: One of the most well known of all places to go to in Michigan is Traverse City. Reserve a room on the bay to soak in the beautiful Michigan weather, or explore the city if you're looking for a little more adventure. There's no shortage of shops to browse downtown, or schedule a wine tasting on the peninsula. If you have little ones you may wish to discover the Great Lakes Children's Museum and take part in hands-on activities, events, and displays. When dinner time rolls around, check out the top Traverse City restaurants on TripAdvisor, they will not disappoint!

2.) South Haven, MI: Located on the west side of Michigan near Kalamazoo, South Haven is a beautiful sight to behold. Boasting West Michigan's beautiful coast line, South Haven is perfect for relaxing on the beach or exploring the adventure that the city has to offer. If you want to get on the water, visit the Michigan Maritime Museum with over a half dozen river boat excursions and sailing available for all interested. There are also plenty of replica vessels and historic vessels available to see at the museum. Looking to be more active? Bike the 34-mile trail between South Haven and Kalamazoo! And don't forget to get a photo at the popular lighthouse!

3.) Holland, MI: More than just a city on the beach, Holland has so much to offer travelers from near and far. Not only is the town itself beautiful and right on Lake Michigan, there are a number of great attractions to behold. You can check out the Holland Aquatic Center, the DeGraaf Nature Center, or all the walkable shops and restaurants downtown. Hit the slide at the Aquatic Center or take part in aquatic yoga. There's a reason this town attracts so many people for the springtime Tulip Festival – visit for yourself to take it all in!

4.) Grand Haven, MI: Another West Michigan destination that might shock you with its cold water temps is Grand Haven. The infamous Grand Haven lighthouse is a spectacular site to behold and something you may wish to check out while you walk the beach or swim in Lake Michigan. A great way to check out the whole city is to hop on the trolley that goes all throughout town. Or visit the boardwalk to see all the boats nearby. If you've got more than a weekend, you could visit all of these West Michigan destinations!
